New Website

My new website address:  http://www.nidakaydesigns.com/

I'll be blogging from there in the future.  There was some talk of interfacing this blog with the new site (IF I'm even using the correct computery termnology)  I'm about to order new biz cards which will list NidaKayDesigns.com only.  You'll gain access to my Etsy site by clicking on Shop.  So much easier than sending you scurrying here and there!

Dyed six skeins of yarn today.  Only miss the hot desert summer when I want to flash dry my yarn so I can work with it right away!  In the dye baths today:  silver gray, denim blue, warm coral, muted blue/green, earthy peach and nougat.  Now I have to decide - wrist warmers or hats??  Have to wait 24 hours for the yarn to dry, that should give me time to make up my mind.

See you at the new website!!

Oh my, I don't think I've ever spent so many hours crocheting in one day, and I'm not done yet...

New Website!!

My computer whiz nephew, Charlie, is in the process of creating a website for me.  Very exciting!  He's very patient with the computer illiterates, of which I'm one.  If you'd like someone to kindly help you to create your own website, don't hesitate to contact him!  http://www.charliespcrepair.com/  Thanks, Chow!

...some catching up to do...

October has flown by!  I must be having fun 'cuz I've been crazy busy!

Started Palm Springs Village Fest Oct 6th.  It's every Thursday night on Palm Canyon between Baristo and Amado from 6 - 10pm.  My space is in front of Las Casuelas Terraza restaurant.  http://www.palmspringsvillagefest.com/

The Etsy Team of the Coachella Valley is hosting its first show November 12 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Rancho Mirage.  Here's the link for all the info:  http://theetsyteamofthecoachellavalley.blogspot.com/2011/10/website-is-here.html

Nov 12 - 13 is Rancho Mirage's Art Affaire.  Sunday, the 13th, Mariellen Boss has arranged for spinners to set up in a historic building on the grounds (Ranchito Chiquita?).  If I'm not too tired after the CV Etsy show, I'll be there.  http://www.ranchomirageca.gov/residents/things_to_do/art_affaire.php

I'll be participating in the sew Funky Market December 4 in Ontario.  Another link for particulars!  http://sewfunkymarket.blogspot.com/

The Southern California Marketplace show for October was canceled.

You probably won't hear another peep out of me until after Dec 4.  Until then it's nose to the spinning wheel and crochet hook in hand.  Hope to see you at one or more of the shows!!

Ta!

International Spin in Public Day

Yes, there is such a thing.  I did my part by setting up the wheel in front of Garden of Beaden, and spinning three skeins of yarn.  Received a special order for 6 oz of yarn - looking forward to dying the requested colors!  (Thanks, Pat!)

Today was the second to last day of the Bead Shop Hop.  I made it to three shops last weekend.  Forgot to bring my "passport" this week, so that's it for me this year.

In the next day or so, I'll be posting my fall show schedule.  Please check back - would love to see you at a show!!

Busy Busy Busy

Two days after the trunk show in San Diego, we left on vacation.  Amazing trip.  I so love northern California.  We stayed in Gasquet http://www.smithriverretreat.com/ where we completely relaxed, lulled to sleep by the sound of the Smith River each night.  While in Mendocino, found kindred spirits at the Mendocino Yarn Shop  http://www.mendocinoyarnshop.com/.  Shop owner, Annelle, is passionate about fiber arts, and I was able to spend sometime with Lenora getting spinning tips.

After pouting for a week at vacation's end (hot seems so much hotter after lovely, cool weather) I panicked because I didn't think I had enough inventory for the Handmade Marketplace show.  Turns out, the show has been postponed until [tentatively] the end of October.  shew  Must crochet and spin diligently until then!

I have someone who's going to help me with photos! (finally, you say!)  Sandra from http://www.vintagegeek1979.etsy.com/ has come to the rescue.  She's a lovely person, and I look forward to working with her.

Trunk Show - Bead Gallery

Enjoyed a pleasant day at the Bead Gallery in Mira Mesa (San Diego area) last Saturday.  I was impressed by the staff's awareness of customer's needs.  Every shopper was greeted as they came in the door.  All-in-all, a lovely environment!

Carmen, who works at the shop, had an immediate vision for a pair of turquoise needle felted hearts.  I handed them over, she worked her magic, and tah dah! they had become a pair of earrings with bead dangles!  (no, I don't have a photo, I forgot my camera...)  I'm sure if you contact the shop, they would e-mail a photo to you!  http://www.beadgallery.org/  You may also contact the shop to put your name on an interest list for a needle felting class I'll be teaching this fall.  What a feeling of accomplishment to make your own fiber componants for jewelry!

Debbie Schmeling of Elizabeth Couture www.etsy.com/shop/elizabethcouture stopped by the shop.  I'm excited to see how she'll use the fibers embellishments in her work!

Now it's time to focus on yarn for the Handmade Marketplace show Sept 18 in Old Pasadena.  http://www.etsy.com/teams/8907/southern-californias-handmade   I'm delighted to be spinning with batts from my drum carder. I get lost in the joy of blending the wool, sparkles and other add-ins.  Okay, I'm about to go into raptures, so I'll stop!

In other news - the a/c has been out since yesterday.  I live in a desert.  It's summer.  Today my fave person is going to be the repairman!!
